Federal Minister for Power Division Awais Leghari directs to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Ramadan
Federal Minister for Power Division Awais Leghari has issued directives to ensure uninterrupted and hassle-free electricity supply during Sehri and Iftar throughout the holy month of Ramadan. He directed that a robust and responsive system be put in place to address public complaints and effectively manage load requirements. Federal Minister instructed all electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) to promptly address consumer complaints and ensure swift grievance redressal. He also directed the chief executive officers of all DISCOs to establish dedicated control rooms to monitor electricity supply and respond effectively to any emergencies. Special instructions have been issued to deal with high-loss areas in accordance with the ongoing anti-electricity theft campaign to prevent any further accumulation of arrears, losses, or circular debt. According to a spokesperson for the Power Division, the objective of these measures is to prevent further increases in arrears and system losses. It has been decided that even in high-loss areas, load shedding will not be carried out during Sehri and Iftar timings. In such areas, load management will instead be adjusted to hours other than Sehri and Iftar during Ramadan. “The DISCOs have further been directed to strictly avoid unannounced load shedding during the holy month of Ramadan,” the spokesperson added. It is pertinent to mention that the Power Division has issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all electricity distribution companies, including K-Electric, to ensure smooth power supply during the designated hours.
